Flos Vanus - Adabana

Flos Vanus - Adabana is dedicated to two extraordinary female artists around 1600:
Izumo no Okuni – the Japanese dancer and founder of Kabuki theatre.
Isabella Leonarda – the Italian composer of Baroque masterworks.

Both lived in an era when women still held significant artistic freedoms - before the arts became increasingly reserved for men.

What if these two had met?

The program Flos Vanus – Adabana – "fruitless flower" – celebrates this brief flowering of female freedom, while also recalling its transience, with extroverted madness and spiritual asceticism.
It honors the creativity of women who were ahead of their time.
